COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Core/Foundation Subjects – 12 units

 

EDF 200 – History and Philosophy of Education. This course covers a thorough analysis and survey on the various philosophical orientations as they are related to the theory of knowledge.

 

EDF 201 – Foundations of Education.  This course covers sociological, psychological, and anthropological aspects of the educational system, stressing the educational structure, the teaching-learning processes, human behavior and development, individual differences and the dynamics of learning, motivating, and measurement and evaluation.

 

EDF 202- Methods of Research. This course focuses on research processes and methodology which includes research conceptualization/planning, problem and hypothesis formulation, research design, data analysis, presentation, writing and reporting.  It also includes model and theory testing and building.

 

EDF 203- Statistics in Education. This lecture-practicum course deals with statistical methods and principles as they apply to education, psychology, sciences agriculture, business, and others. It covers descriptive and inferential statistics needed to interpret data and solve research problems. It deals with the principles, theories, and processes of selection and use of statistics and statistical test for summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting research data.

 

Major Subjects  – 12 units

 

EDH 211- Human Resources Development and Evaluation.  This course includes concepts, theories, principles, and approaches on human resource development, training and evaluation. It deals primarily on human resource planning, identifying needs as well as designing training and development programs and evaluation of such trainings/programs.

 

EDH 212 – Human Behavior in Organization. The course covers concepts, theories, and principles of project planning, implementation and evaluation as they apply to feasibility, training and development of projects and researches.

 

EDH 213 – Development Administration and Theories. This course covers theories and concepts of development and administration (administrative machinery), its critical and objective assessment particularly in strengthening administrative capability and maximizing innovations for development.

 

EDH 214 – Organization and Management. This course involves theories, processes, and techniques involved in the organization and management of the national government and its agencies as well as planning and implementation of development programs and projects.

 

EDH 215 – Communication in Educational Management.  This course deals with principles, concepts, and theories of communication as they apply in management, specifically in educational organizations.

 

EDH 216- NFE/ Extension Program Management.  This course starts with the nature of non-formal education (NFE). It looks on the design, organization, and management of principles, theories and practices of NFE. Planning, staffing, and financing of these projects, programs, and activities are also stressed. Practicum on occupational skills, literacy and numeric skills and cultural development for a meaningful, social, and civic participation is provided to expose the graduate student with actual situations as regards the organization and management of NFE programs projects. It further covers the study and preparation of instructional materials for use in NFE classes and/or preparation of relevant devices needed by the teacher.

 

EDH 217- Entrepreneurship in Education and Management.  The course deals with the organization, operation, and management of small business enterprises.  It also discusses current practices, problems encountered in planning, control, legal requirements, personnel physical facilities, financial, and records management.

 

SPED 210- Introduction to Special Education. This course covers the different guiding principles, policies, legal bases, current issues and trends in  special education. It identifies different categories of exceptional children and the respective approaches, techniques, methodologies and remediation in handling these children. The last part of the course includes the educational programs, placement, and management of exceptional children. Curriculum development as well as guidance for the exceptional children are also emphasized.

 

INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

EDMT 237 – Basic Information Technology and Management System.  This course deals with the fundamental concepts of computer and the utilization of computer system and software to produce quality reports, information sheets, slides and presentations. It includes topics on trends in information technology, operating systems, and word processing using MS Word, electronic spreadsheet using MS Excel, and electronic presentation using MS PowerPoint.

 

 

GS 299 – Graduate Seminar.  This is a preparatory course in the conceptualization, development, and writing of thesis following standards in research in terms of design, format, language, and style.  It includes oral presentation and discussion of current researches in the discipline.
