Core/Foundation Subjects – 12 UNITS

 

EDF 200 – History and Philosophy of Education. This course covers a thorough analysis and survey on the various philosophical orientations as they are related to the theory of knowledge.

 

EDF 201 – Foundations of Education.  This course covers sociological, psychological, and anthropological aspects of the educational system, stressing the educational structure, the teaching-learning processes, human behavior and development, individual differences and the dynamics of learning, motivating, and measurement and evaluation.

 

EDF 202- Methods of Research. This course focuses on research processes and methodology which includes research conceptualization/planning, problem and hypothesis formulation, research design, data analysis, presentation, writing and reporting.  It also includes model and theory testing and building.

 

EDF 203- Statistics in Education. This lecture-practicum course deals with statistical methods and principles as they apply to education, psychology, sciences agriculture, business, and others. It covers descriptive and inferential statistics needed to interpret data and solve research problems. It deals with the principles, theories, and processes of selection and use of statistics and statistical test for summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting research data.

 

 

Major Subjects – 15 units

 

GAC 250 – Philosophical, Psychological. and Sociological Foundations of Guidance. This is a 3-unit course that covers theoretical bases of guidance and counseling. Its main purpose is to deepen understanding and appreciation of the view and nature of man through an interdisciplinary approach.

 

GAC 251 – Organization, Administration, and Supervision of Guidance and Counseling Services.  This course is designed to give an overview on the organization,  administration, and supervision of guidance and counseling programs and services  and equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills on how to develop appropriate programs. It exposes students to the entire range of services provided in the public and private schools as well as those in industry and professional communities.

 

GAC 252 – Counseling Tools and Techniques I. This course deals with the analysis, investigation, and application of a number of selected theories and techniques of counseling. Students are required to have practicum activities through simulation of cases and actual counseling services.

 

GAC 253 – Psychological Testing I. This is a laboratory course that provides practical knowledge of different assessment tools including standardized tests, observation, interviews, and other authentic measures utilized in counseling.  Students are equipped with skills through hands-on experience in selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting tests, constructing non–test assessment tools  and designing a testing program.

 

GAC 254 -Internship. This course deals with field experience and practice in guidance and counseling activities under the direct supervision of practicum coordinators. Emphasis is on the performance of various counselor functions.

 

 

  Elective/Cognate Subjects – 9 units

 

GAC 255 – Trends in Guidance and Counseling. This course deals with issues and trends, as well as strategies in guidance and counseling aimed at upgrading teachers/counselors in their counseling skills. It explores the application, procedures, and techniques to help clients in crisis situations. It also endeavors to look into the counseling strategies and techniques in helping clients with special problems such as suicidal tendencies, sexual abuse, and relationship problems among others.

 

GAC 256 – Advanced Development Psychology. This course deals with the development of the individual from the pre-natal stage to senility covering different aspects and understanding the meaning of behaviors exhibited in each developmental stage.

 

GAC 257 – Theories of Personality and Mental Health. This course is an organized view to the study of personality based on theories which explain behavior, basic psychological concepts, and principles of personal and social adjustments to life situations, and to the different forms of behavior in each development stage.

 

GAC 258 – Career Development. This is a 3–unit course that focuses on theories, approaches, strategies, and techniques in the conduct of career guidance and counseling programs. It also includes the effective use of assessment tools, methods of disseminating, and use of career information.  Simulated and actual career counseling experiences and activities will be explored.

 

GAC 259 – Psychological Testing II. This course deals with the administration and interpretation of projective tests for guidance, educational, and clinical evaluation.

 

GAC 260- Abnormal and Clinical Psychology. The course deals with the general principles of abnormal and clinical psychology and the application of these principles to the knowledge of the different types of abnormal behavior, its causes, psychodynamics, and its treatment.

 

GAC 261 – Group Process. This course covers systematic analysis of group behavior and various types of group interaction. It is an experiential course that focuses on learning how to apply the varied theories and techniques of group process and the skills in designing and facilitating group, program/activities for human growth.

 

GAC 262 – Program Development. This is a 3-unit course which deals on the different models which serve as a basis in designing a guidance program.

 

GAC 263 – Counseling Tools, Theories and Techniques II. This highlights other techniques in counseling like multi-cultural, geriatric, genetic, marriage, family and solution-focused approaches.

 

SPED 210- Introduction to Special Education. This course covers the different guiding principles, policies, legal bases, current issues and trends in  special education. It identifies different categories of exceptional children and the respective approaches, techniques, methodologies and remediation in handling these children. The last part of the course includes the educational programs, placement, and management of exceptional children. Curriculum development as well as guidance for the exceptional children are also emphasized.

 

EDM 210- Legal Bases of Education. This course deals with laws, statutes, orders, and other legislations (constitutional provisions, decrees, orders, circulars) pertinent to organization, management, and supervision of schools and the educational system in the Philippines.

 

 

INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

EDMT 237 – Basic Information Technology and Management System.  This course deals with the fundamental concepts of computer and the utilization of computer system and software to produce quality reports, information sheets, slides and presentations. It includes topics on trends in information technology, operating systems, and word processing using MS Word, electronic spreadsheet using MS Excel, and electronic presentation using MS PowerPoint.

 

 

GS 299 – Graduate Seminar.  This is a preparatory course in the conceptualization, development, and writing of thesis following standards in research in terms of design, format, language, and style.  It includes oral presentation and discussion of current researches in the discipline.
