COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Core/Foundation Subjects – 12 UNITS

 

DAF 201 – Theory and Practice of Development Administration. This course covers concepts, principles, issues, trends, and practice of public administration and the bureaucracy in national development, specifically in Philippine setting.

 

DAF 202 – Economic and Social Aspects of Development.  The course presents theories, concepts, trends and practices, structures, dynamics, or processes of economic and social development within the macro and micro levels in Philippine setting.

 

DAF 203- Methods of Research. This course focuses on research processes and methodology which includes research conceptualization/planning, problem and hypothesis formulation, research design, data analysis, presentation, writing and reporting.  It also includes model and theory testing and building.

 

DAF 204- Statistics. This lecture-practicum course deals with statistical methods and principles as they apply to education, psychology, sciences agriculture, business, and others. It covers descriptive and inferential statistics needed to interpret data and solve research problems. It deals with the principles, theories, and processes of selection and use of statistics and statistical test for summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting research data.

 

 Major Subjects – 15 units

 

DAP 211 – Organization and Management.  This course covers theories, processes, and techniques involved in the organization and management of the national government and its agencies and the planning: planning and implementation of the development programs and projects.

 

DAP 212 – Development Planning and Budgeting.  The course includes fiscal policy, revenue administration, government budgeting, accounting, purchasing and supplying materials, relationship to administration practice and management tools in policy, program, and project implementation.

 

DAP 213 – Public Policy, Program and Project Management. This course involves concepts, principles and theories on public policy, program and project management and their relationship to administration practice and management tools in policy, program and project implementation.

 

DAP 214 – Administration of Rural Development. This is a course involving the administration and roles of local, regional and central institutions in rural development and service. It includes planning, organizing, organization, personnel and management concepts and methods; community organization and participation; and problems and issues in the administration of rural development.

 

DAP 215 – Fiscal Administration. The course deals on budgeting and accounting with emphasis on the process of budget implementation, fund accounting of government units, tax levels appropriations and accounting for revenue and expenditures and principles of government auditory and financial controls.

 

DAP 221 – Human Behavior in Organization.  The course is concerned with the optimum utilization of people to help attain an organization’s objectives. It presents relevant concepts of approaches and theories in human resources development and human power training for a modernizing society.

 

DAP 222 – Strategic Management. The course deals with conflict in emergency and crisis situations from undefined administrative jurisdiction and ambiguous bureaucratic positions.

 

Elective/Cognate Subjects – 9 units

 

DAP 223- Ethics and Administrative Law. The course deals with ethical concepts and standards embodied in managerial ethics and proceedings before administrative bodies. It includes review of administrative decisions and handling of administrative cases considering some major obstacles like legalism, ambiguity in the law, and continuing challenges to achieve fair decision.

 

DAP 224- Local Government Administration.  The course covers theories, concepts, principles, and the Local Government Code of 1991 pertaining to the political subdivisions of the state particularly provincial, municipal and barangay governments, as they operate in Philippines politics and administrative settings.

 

DAP 225 – Comparative Local Politics and Administration.  The course is a comparative study of local governments, community powers, policy-making, administrative systems, and strategies for development.

 

DAP 226 – Public Enterprise System. The course explores the nature of public enterprises, relationship between the government, and the public enterprise sector, issues of managerial autonomy, public accountability, and the role of the state in the economy.

 

EDMT 237 – Basic Information Technology and Management System.  This course deals with the fundamental concepts of computer and the utilization of computer system to produce quality reports, information sheets, slides and presentations. It includes topics on trends in information technology, operating systems, and word processing using MS Word, electronic spreadsheet using MS Excel and electronic presentation using MS PowerPoint.

 

GS 299 – Graduate Seminar.  This is a preparatory course in the conceptualization, development, and writing of thesis following standards in research in terms of design, format, language, and style. It includes oral presentation and discussion of current researches in the discipline.
