Course Description

 

 

Foundation Courses (6 units)

 

Biology 201 –Research and Scientific Writing. This course focuses on experimental designs applied to research in the natural sciences.

 

Biology 202         Biostatistics. This is a course study of statistical concepts and methods used in describing and understanding data from research.

CORE courses (15 units)

 

Biology 204         Advanced Developmental Biology.  The course covers concepts and mechanisms involved in the specialization of cells including the regulation of fertilization, morphogenesis, pattern formation, and differentiation.

 

Biology 205         Advanced Physiology.  The course involves current trends and concepts in physiology emphasizing the universal physiological principles applied to all organisms.

 

Biology 206         Advanced Ecology.  This is an advanced study on the principles and concepts including ecosystems’ structure and functions in natural environment.

 

Biology 207         Advanced Genetics.  The course deals with principles and concepts underlying heredity, variation, mutation, and related processes. 

 

Biology 208         Advanced Cell & Molecular Biology.  The course covers recent advances in cell and molecular biology including cancer biology and genetic engineering.

 

Biology 209         Advanced Animal and Plant Histology. The course covers recent developments in the study of animal and plant tissues with emphasis on the relationship of structure and function.

 

Biology 210         Advanced Animal and Plant Systematic Biology.  The course deals with principles and methods of classification, phylogeny, and nomenclature in animals and plants.

 

BIOLOGY SPECIALTY COURSES (6 units)

 

Biology 211         Economic Biology.  The course traces the origin, history, biological relationships, and uses of plants and animals in the Philippines with emphasis on economic values.

 

Biology 212         Advanced Microbiology. The course covers concepts of microbial nutrition, metabolism & adaptation as related to growth and development of microorganisms.

Biology 213         Bioethics. The course is a critical analysis of issues arising from science, technology, belief structures, rights of an individual and society, and their interrelationships.

 

Biology 214         Problems in Environmental Biology. The course covers different environmental pollutants and their effects on biological systems. It also includes an analysis of environmental issues at the local and national levels.

 

Biology 215 Molecular Genetics.  The course involves molecular mechanisms of inheritance, mutation, and related processes.

Biology 216         Population Genetics.  The course deals with principles and concepts governing the behavior of genes in populations.

 

ELECTIVES (3 units)

 

Biology 217         Educational Technology in Biology Teaching. The course is an application of new techniques and developments in the teaching of biology.

 

Biology 218         Biological Techniques. The course covers methods and procedures in the preparation of plant and animal tissues for microscopic as well as macroscopic examination.

Biology 219         Current Topics, Issues & Recent Developments in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.  The course involves discussions on current topics and issues including recent development and advances in molecular biology and biotechnology.

Biology 220         Research in Ecology.  The course covers special problem which will involve laboratory work on any topic in ecology.

 

Biology 221         Research in Developmental Biology. The course covers special problems involving extensive laboratory work on any topic in developmental biology

 

Biology 222         Research in Genetics. The course covers special problems involving extensive laboratory work on any topic in Genetics.

 

 Biology 223        Research in Physiology.  The course covers special problem involving laboratory work on any topic in Physiology.

 

EDMT  227*         Advanced Information Technology and Management System.  This course deals with the fundamental concepts of computer and the utilization of computer system to produce quality reports, information sheets, slides and presentations. It includes topics on trends in information technology, operating systems, and word processing using MS Word, electronic spreadsheet using MS Excel and electronic presentation using MS PowerPoint.

 

GS 299* Graduate SeminarGS 299 – Graduate Seminar.  This is a preparatory course in the conceptualization, development, and writing of thesis following standards in research in terms of design, format, language, and style.  It includes oral presentation and discussion of current researches in the discipline.
