COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Core/Foundation Subjects – 18 units

 

EDAF 301 – Education Perspective I.  This subject covers a wide range of educational issues from various perspectives that illustrates interdisciplinary approach in solving issues/concerns. It encompasses the factors that are contributory to academic success which are also dependent on the stakeholders, mentors, parents and other significant people’s support for students’ progress. Likewise, this subject also includes theories, concepts, and models in the other fields of discipline like psychology, philosophy, anthropology and sociology which are influential in the total development of the learner.

 

EDAF 302 – Education Perspective II.  This course is a classroom-based seminar concentrated on seminal readings, research findings, media reports, as well as studies on the Philippine educational sector. Course requirements include papers and presentations on different issues.

 

EDAF 303– Advanced Research Methods. This course covers different types of research methods, data-gathering instruments, research designs, employing statistical and qualitative procedures to analyze data, as well as  interpret and evaluate research reports.

 

EDAF 304 – Advanced Statistics.  This subject focuses on advanced statistical methods and the application of these techniques to practical research. It includes the use of statistical package in order to catch up with the advances in software technology and facilitate the conduct of research.

 

EDAF 305 – Quality Assurance and National Development. This course deals with different parameters on how improve quality education vis-a-vis standards. It looks into approaches aimed at developing quality institutions by considering the interface of human, material, and physical resources. This course also covers the vital role of research and extension for national development and highlights the best practices of educational institutions which includes models, concepts, and organizational behaviour among others.

 

EDAF 306 – Theories and Practices in Administration and Supervision. This course covers theories in administration and supervision and their application to organizational settings. Research studies and case analysis are included as requirements of the course.

EDAD  307- Educational Leadership.  This course focuses on the role of leadership in planning and performing differing management activities in the different levels of education from preschool to advanced education institutions.

 

EDAD 308 – Legal Problems, Issues, and Administrative Policies in Education. This course is an analysis of educational problems, issues, policies and situations and their legal implications.

 

EDAD 309 – Administrative Reforms and Innovations in Education. The course highlights reforms and innovations in education with emphasis on indigenous teaching-learning alternatives as well as appropriate technology. It includes studies on trends and policies on curriculum, teaching methodologies as well as recruitment, selection, and development of human resources.

 

EDAD 310 – Trends and Issues in National Development. This course includes issues and trends in education and in the national scenario. These concerns and issues are on world commission on environment and development, the expansion of primary education, computer and technology-based instruction, health information design and dissemination, the prevalence of contraceptive use, service industries, new frontiers in public sector management and governance, land and water use management, demographic diagnosis and sustainability, curriculum development, and other issues and trends dominating the education landscape among others. The conduct of research and application of effective decision-making skills and procedures are emphasized to address the issues and to keep abreast with the latest trends.

 

EDAD 311 – Systems Analysis in Education. This course focuses on the analysis of the implementation of educational policies and systems as applied to the present era.

 

EDAD 312 – Fiscal Administration.  The study focuses on budgeting and accounting with emphasis on the processes of budget implementation, fund accounting of government units, tax level appropriations and accounting for revenue and expenditures, and principles of government auditory and financial controls.

 

EDAD 313 – Educational Planning.  This course deals on the planning and implementation processes of educational programs in all levels covering aspects of school curriculum, physical plant, and administration among others. Furthermore, it discusses theories, policies, models, approaches, and techniques of planning and implementation as applied to the development of national, regional, local/institutional plans.

 

EDAD 314 – Educational Administration and Organization Development. This course deals with thrusts and trends in educational administration, organization, and management that are made to respond to the felt need of the people involved in education and engendering innovative ideas necessary to make education responsive and relevant.  It centers on the whys and the whats of curricular innovations, trends, and issues that make the educational system in cadence with the changing times characterized by modernization, empowerment, globalization, and other changes.

 

EDAD 315 Methodology and Supervision of College Teaching.  The course focuses on mediated and non-mediated teaching methods, approaches, and strategies with emphasis on modern educational technology and preparation of instructional materials. It also deals on the characteristics and functions of an effective teaching-learning process towards the delivery of  quality college instruction.

 

EDAD 316 – Project Planning and Development. This course involves steps/processes in project design. It also includes models, methods, and approaches in project design. Moreover, this course emphasizes the concept of excellence in project management which is achieved through effective management and governance. This also includes best practices of institutions in project planning and the application of complex processes in project designs.

 

Elective/Cognate Subjects  – 9 units

 

EDAD 317 – Economics of Education. The subject deals with the investments in education and the returns or gains derived from such investments. It traverses all levels of the educational system, from pre-school to the graduate courses and includes present thrusts and innovations introduced in the system.

 

EDAD 318 – Development Perspective in Education. This course is a holistic presentation on the development perspective in education which includes human and natural development, effective utilization of government investments in education with emphasis on managing quality performance/total quality management.

 

EDAD 319 – Curricular Development and Evaluation.  This course involves the design and study on curriculum development and evaluation.  It also includes research, planning, supervision, and evaluation of the curriculum with reference to instructional materials, textbooks, manipulation instruments, teaching aids, and devices.

 

EDAD 320 – Stress Management and Group Dynamics.  This is a lecture-practicum course focused on stress management programs/strategies and group dynamics as they apply to education organization/and/or the workplace. It deals with the nature of stress, its sources, effects of stress, organizational stress, and different stress coping strategies.

 

EDAD 321 – Environmental Planning and Management for Sustainable Development. This course tackles environmental integration in the  local and national development planning and management of private and public agencies on the following topics—land use planning, integrated watershed management, integrated coastal zone management, management of protected areas and conservation of endangered and threatened species, environment and natural resources accounting, environmental impact assessment of development projects and sectors, environmental health risk assessment and management, domestic waste management, industrial pollution prevention and control, appropriate technologies for waste reuse, recycling and alternative utilization, environmental rehabilitation, and recovery from natural disasters and environmental awareness, developmental communication, and people’s participation which will effect a rational approach to sustainable development plan. Inclusion of environmental legislation to development sectors will also be discussed.

EDAD 322 – Asian/European Language. This is a course on Asian or European languages aimed at promoting international communication and understanding as well as equips the students with  language skills that enhances their competitiveness in a global society.

 

 

INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Ted Mgt. 327 – Advanced Information Technology and Management System.  Advanced Information Technology and Management System. The course is an application of information technology in organizations specifically the roles and responsibilities of educational manpower and staff professionals in the planning and development of management information systems (MIS).

 

GS 399 – Graduate Seminar.  This is a preparatory course in the conceptualization, development, and writing of dissertation following standards in research in terms of design, format, language, and style.  It includes oral presentation and discussion of current researches in the discipline.
